BMW X3 2018

It seems that the BMW was banned from creativity, and instead, all designers were put in Audi mode to shred the details. With BMW 5, we’ve seen what this leads to, and here’s another great example, the third generation of X3. The factories also felt that they had to show what was the difference between the old and the new, so the two cars got together on a common image.

This gives you a good look at the variations: the larger kidneys with active airflow control grille, soundproof windscreen, new LED headlamps, new bumpers with LED fog lights and a pretty big sensor for the self-driving system. From the side and rear you can see that there are two different cars – others are the surfaces and edges of the bodywork, the shape of the fender wings and the rear lights, if we look at it, they actually did not leave anything untouched – but the car’s proportions and characters did not change that much, so that it is striking without any direct comparison.

 

Even though figures are clear, they have changed: the weight of the car has dropped by an average of fifty kilograms, the new body abrasion factor has dropped to 0.29, the wheelbase has increased by 5.5 centimeters, and the length of the car has increased by 5.3 centimeters. Width and altitude, however, only millimeters separate the two generations as the cargo area has remained 550 liters. It looks like BMW was really filling the details of the development with a bit of detail – for example, 50:50 static axle load distribution was achieved, which is believed to have even better than the car’s turnaround.

BMW will initially offer five types of engines for the new X3 from all well-known half-cylinder engines. The Citroen’s petrol range consists of two two-liter four-cylinder engines, the weaker 184, the stronger 252 horsepower, and the former rear wheel drive. Hanger gasoline is only offered in the X3 M40i, this 360-horsepower version of the three-liter turbo motor will deliver a hundred paces in up to 4.8 seconds. The smaller diesel engine also features a two-liter four-cylinder 190 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm, the largest three-liter, 265 horsepower and 620 Nm of maximum torque. With this latter engine, the X3 is also quite rough, with a speed of 100 km / h in 5.8 seconds, the top speed is 240 km / h, and the average consumption is 5.7-6 liters a hundred kilometers. At BMW, there is a strong tendency today to offer only one gear and ZF’s eight-speed automatic. The X3 will only be available to anyone who is looking for anything else and will be forced to look around with other brands.

Production will take place in the US plant of BMW in Spartanburg – the show was also held there – where the X4, X5 and X6 models are being built, and from 2018 the X7 will be next. For now, it is difficult to assess how the conservative model upgrade tactics will become. In any case, BMW is hoping that the new X3 will surpass its predecessor, which has sold roughly 950,000 copies over the past seven years.
